Is the treatment safe and what are the possible side effects?Updated 6 months ago
Yes, experience over many years has shown that Iontophoresis treatment in the clinic and at home is safe without serious side effects. SWEAT GUARD® provides UK-based expert support and this increases the likelihood of success and reduces the risk of any side effects and treatment delays.
The following temporary side effects have been reported in the literature.
Irritation, skin reddening, burning sensation, small blisters and itching. Wait until symptoms disappear completely before starting your next treatment.
Tingling and stinging sensations. Slight pain could be felt at the beginning of the treatment or after the polarity changes. If you feel any of the above effects, reduce the current intensity during your next treatment.
Increased sweating: After the first few treatments, rarely you may experience an increase in sweating. This will reduce after a few treatments.
Small electric shocks during treatment: In very rare cases, a harmless electric shock may occur if treatment is interrupted suddenly. To avoid this risk, remove your hands, feet or underarm electrodes slowly.
Skin dryness: Skin may become dry and scaling may occur. A moisturising or emollient cream can be used to treat and prevent skin dryness.
